This is a one of a kind place for sure. Was a little overwhelmed at first but the staff was really nice and helped me pick the seafood. Ended up getting a salmon fillet and shrimps. I asked them to cook in their recommended way. Their salad (extra) was phenomenal not to mention the complimentary garlic bread! The shrimp which came out fried was the juiciest and very good. The salmon which was cooked in garlic butter was scrumptious too. Definitely recommend this place if you are in the area.
We went in right after it opened. There were already people in there, and we did still have to wait. For 2, we ordered: grilled shrimp, fried calamari, mussels with tomato sauce, grill octopus, and salad. The shrimp was over cooked with too much evoo. The calamari was the best I had in a long time, the octopus was alright. I'd love to go back if it weren't for the waiter coming outside to ask me for tip...you pick your own food and wait inline to order your own food already. Anyways, I didn't know you'd need to bring cash to tip them. I had only $7 in my pocket, and the guy grunted unhappily when I said that's all I have. Clearly, I thought everything would've been added to the bill when we paid...a bit strange. Won't be visiting again
What a unique restaurant for fresh seafood! You go all the way to the back to pick the kind of seafood and how much you want, then you pay at the counter, they cook for you. The next thing you need to do is to find a table. We were there on a Saturday at an early dinner time, this place was already packed! Fortunately, the server would help you to find a table. Prepare to share table with others. There is no privacy, the place is loud, and the smoke from the grill is all over the restaurant. However, this is the kind of lively vibe this restaurant gives out. We waited probably 40 mins for our food. Everything was delicious! No complaints on the food. We understand the restaurant is busy, and the servers are trying to clean as quick as possible so others can be seated. However, we did feel rushed by the way they were tying to take the plates away, etc. Overall, it’s a unique experience that you can probably experience in Queens. Good food, good people, good vibe. Give it a try!
Lunch and dinner are usually packed with lots of people. But the wait is worth it. Choose from the different really fresh seafood and let them cook it to your liking. Definitely a place you should check out.
Oh my god, Astoria Seafood Market is a gem. I’ve never had an experience in New York that transported me back to Greece the way this place did. The entire concept is incredible. You pick your fresh catch, they season it simply, and everything centers on freshness, flavor, and sharing. It’s the kind of food that reminds you how good simple cooking can be. The staff is genuinely kind and always ready to help, which makes the whole experience feel welcoming and effortless. We tried the calamari, shrimp, and a whole fish, and every single dish was stunning. The lemon potatoes are perfection, and the complimentary garlic bread is such a thoughtful touch. It feels like a reminder of when restaurants used to give you little extras because they cared. Astoria Seafood is delicious, charming, and full of heart. I would go back in a heartbeat.
