Pedestrian mall designed in Chinese style featuring a variety of Asian shops & restaurants.via Google
A neon-lit, highly stylized historic plaza built in the late 1930s, featuring traditional Chinese architecture designed by Hollywood set designers.
- Good to know
- Free public space; highly atmospheric at night when the neon is lit.

We had such a fun experience at the Chinatown Central plaza! On the night we were there it was the night market. There were a number of vendors and they had a DJ keeping things lively. We did have some boba tea and some chicken and pork skewers. Another thing we tried that was interesting that we never had was sweet potato balls. I highly recommend checking out this place it was a lot of fun.
This plaza has seen better days. Paint peeling, and whole place in need of a makeover. It’s mostly old mom and pop gift shops with clothing, antiques and knock knacks. There’re a few new shops.
Only went at night, in the rain, and everything was closed lol but it was still absolutely beautiful. So much history!
Taken 8/20/25 Beautiful Architecture, safe at least till 9. Beautiful park alongside the A-line just north father Chinatown station. There is a Bruce Lee Memorial on Broadway
A run down inner city neighborhood. Very sad to visit. Most Chinese people moved to the San Gabriel Valley a few decades ago. This China Town barely has any Chinese visitors besides the merchants. It is merely a tourist spot with a Chinese touch. Monterey Park is more like Chinatown .
