Lovely hidden away hidden location. The staff are friendly. Had a good time checking out this place with my partner. Felt like a special place. The fish was slightly more salty than it needed to be but otherwise fine. Good when you want a break from my usual eating-out food made up of fish and chips, pizza, burgers, Chinese food and curries
Returning again for a nice meal when I had some time to kill. A great spot to sit and grab a tasty meal in the shoreditch area. Great and helpful service, the heated patio was cozy and bustling. Food was excellent. I had the sea bass; nothing like a nicely cooked fresh fish filet with that crisp.
Delightfully surprising - British food well done with rare attention to detail and care. Date loaf was a great mix of temperatures and textures (crunchy edges). Lamb was very comforting backed by a buttery sauce against the liquorice flavour of fennel. The tartare sauce with the devilled sprats was fresh - dill with some crunchy sour vegetables. I don’t know if we just chose well or if every dish is done at such high quality. Will come again to find out.
I have such mixed feelings about our meal we had at Rochelle Canteen.. I don’t know if because I’d heard a lot of hype around the restaurant that I was disappointed that it didn’t blow my mind or if my criticism was justified, here are my pros and cons… Pros -Gorgeous setting, felt fancy but not stuffy -Food was on the whole super tasty, fresh and seasonal, lovely drinks too! Cons -Staff were not that attentive, we had bread and then about 5 mins later plates come without a sorry or explanation as to why she didn’t bring them sooner when I could see she wasn’t busy. Everyone also seemed very quiet and not very engaging or welcoming or chatty, which is fair they’re just doing their job, but it’s always nice when a server makes you feel welcome -The food was lovely but just didn’t feel like it justified the really high prices, it felt like going round to someone’s house and them cooking some great food but then we had to pay £170 for it… -Everything could maybe do with a little more flavour in my opinion I would recommend if you don’t mind spending a fair amount as everything did feel super fresh and well cooked (and the use of seasonal ingredients was fab) but don’t expect a wow factor or incredible service
Great place for lunch that is full of character. Tasty farm to table dishes where everything tastes fresh. Menu is also seafood forward; I ordered the roast chicken (menu rotates). Friendly staff with an open kitchen and connected greenhouse with seating that’s cozy in colder weather.
