Cheeky köbes waitstaff serving German fare & kölsch beer in a dark-timbered room or on a terrace.via Google

A historic tavern that serves its own uncarbonated Kölsch directly from wooden barrels, maintaining a quiet, local atmosphere.

Signature
Hämchen (slow-boiled pork knuckle served with sauerkraut and puree)

Wonderful food and environment! Had the traditional sand on the floor, wooden tables and served the traditional beer for Koln (Kolsch)!! Every bite was fantastic!! The fact that it is not full of tourists was also a big plus. Lots of fun locals and wonderful service.

An amazing experience - found this place tucked away not far from cologne cathedral. We were invited in for kölsch which flows non-stop until you cover your glass but the food was a highlight as well. The knuckle is a must and the schnitzel was also great but the ambiance here is what really makes the visit. A must-go if you’re eager to experience a proper German beer house and food.

Loved this restaurant. Generally locals only eating here so definitely not touristy. The food was fantastic, great tasting German food. The environment had the traditional sand on the floor, wooden tables and served the traditional beer for Cologne (Kolsch). Staff were fab and if you're a dog owner, this is your restaurant.

This is where you get great Kölsch from the barrel. No bullshit, only good beer and good food. Go here for some German culture.

Lively Local Spot with Great Food and Beer We found this place through a travel book we picked up in the U.S., and it turned out to be a fantastic recommendation. It has a fun, local beer hall vibe with communal seating, which made for a lively and welcoming atmosphere. The beer flows freely here—just place your coaster on top of your glass when you’re done, otherwise it keeps coming! The staff was friendly, and the crowd seemed to be in great spirits. The menu had plenty of hearty options. We tried the pork schnitzel with Puszta sauce and the schnitzel with French-style Béarnaise sauce—both were absolutely delicious. Meals came with a flavorful brothy soup to kick things off (and maybe make you crave more beer) and fresh, tasty salads. Prices were very reasonable, and the whole experience felt authentically local. It’s just about a 10-minute walk from the cathedral—definitely worth the visit, and we’d happily come back!
